I believe it is natural for most people to want to “climb the ladder” to the top. Below is an accountability ladder. Where are you on the Ladder? I believe the most rewarding feeling is to get to the top and implement solutions!

The Accountability Ladder will assist you in gaining accountability and leadership skills.

8. Implement Solutions

7. Find Solutions

6. Own It

5. Acknowledge Reality

4. Wait and Hope

3. “I can’t” excuses

2. Blame Others

1. Denial of Situation

(Powerless 1-4)

(Powerful 8-5)

First let’s begin with what accountability really means…

According to Webster’s Dictionary it means: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility.

Leadership is to lead the way. Take charge and go first.

Reaching the top of the accountability ladder sounds simple enough, right? The following will assist you in moving toward accountability and leadership.

Below are unresolved issues that may be holding you back from getting to the top of the accountability ladder. I've included suggestions to help you overcome in order to become successful...

Your ultimate goal is to succeed in accountability and leadership!

You may find yourself in denial of a situation. Making excuses of why your situation exists and simply failing to take accountability for your decisions and choices.

Many blame by pointing fingers at other people for their current situation. Some place judgment on others instead of accepting responsibility and being accountable for themselves which will ultimately prohibits you from accountability and leadership.

What if you accepted responsibility for your situation and changed the way you viewed your life? You have to begin by becoming accountable for your own actions and stop making excuses...

You must take responsibility and be accountable. Once you've accepted responsibility, lead by example…

To become a leader you must learn to lead by example.

Take charge and control of your life! Set the example for others. The old saying of “do as I say and not as I do” has proven not to be effective.

The majority will remember more of what they see than hear.

Actions speak louder than words!

Become proactive and move forward, you have to purpose in accepting accountability and leadership.

You cannot change other people but you can change yourself. Begin by not repeating the past unless it has given you desired results. Make your decision and choices based on doing the right thing for yourself. Do it because it is the right thing to do and not because you want something in return. You can’t control another person but you can change yourself. Often when we do something for others and they don't return the favor or respond the way would have liked we get offended.

Remember that your choices and decisions are based on the information you currently have. Get all of the information and facts before you make your decision. If you are not getting the end result that you are seeking, re-evaluate and make another decision.

Don’t spend a lot of time replaying the past. You will get stuck there if you do. Evaluate and consider what you have learned from your past experiences and move forward. Thus make informative decisions for your future.

Stop using “I can’t.” You must stop making excuses for why you can’t change. You can! The question is how bad do you want the change? How uncomfortable is your current situation? If you are not getting your desired results then do something different. New results and change doesn’t come to those who continually repeat the past and do things the same way.

Acknowledge reality… think about what you have control of which is yourself. Once you accept that, own it. Own the fact that you are responsible only for yourself and your actions.

Most people don't take responsibility for their actions when they’ve done wrong. Stop justifying your wrong. “Well at least I’m not that bad.” “At least I didn’t do that.” Let’s look at what you did, Own It, and continue to move forward. Tomorrow is a new day.

Take responsibility for yourself and don't try to control other people. You can only take responsibility for yourself. Focus on what YOU can do. Don’t wait and hope for things to get better. If you don’t make changes within yourself then nothing changes. Be proactive!

Be a part of the solution. Everyone has problems and leaders seek to be the solution. There are always solutions that we can contribute to. Find out how you can make a difference. Once you discover that, implement the solution. Implement what you have control of and remain focused on your end result. Don't despise small beginnings. Celebrate all accomplishments, even the small ones.

Don't beat yourself up or be too hard on yourself whenever things don't turn out the way you wanted it to. That is wasted energy. Keep moving forward.

Everyone is created to solve a problem. Find out the problems that are around you and become the solution. Doctors solve health problems; lawyers solve legal problems, and teachers solve education problems, etc… Decide whether or not you want to be a part of the problem or the solution. Every successful person solves a problem.

Quickly forgive others, as well as, yourself. We are all human trying to find our way through life. You are on a journey. Don’t take everything personal. Everyone has an opinion and it is just that, their opinion. Stay focused on your end result. Focus on what you are trying to accomplish and remain focused.

It is a skill to remain focused. Our mind chatters with negativity and replays the past. You must learn to replace the negativity with the positive. It takes self-control to take charge of your thoughts.

What are you good at? What are you passionate about? If money were no object, what would you love to do?

You were created for a purpose and you have the power to fulfill your dream that is inside of you. Begin today, believe that you can and you will achieve your purpose and dream and live life to the fullest!!

Assume the accountability and leadership that you desire.
